Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans say they feel more accepted in society than they did 10 years ago, and they're overwhelmingly optimistic that the trend will continue. But a sweeping new Pew Research Center survey also finds persistent levels of stigmatization and secrecy in the community.

"The Pew Research Center finds some 90 percent of LGBT people feel more accepted now than a decade ago, and believe that will continue," reports NPR's Jennifer Ludden.

Feds releasing $15.6 million for I-5 bridge repair

Sen. Patty Murray says the U.S. Department of Transportation is releasing the remaining $15.6 million of the federal share for repair of the I-5 bridge over the Skagit River that collapsed three weeks ago.

Naked woman missing in SW Washington forest

Deputies are searching for a woman missing in a southwest Washington national forest who is naked because she was going on a spiritual quest.

Skamania County Undersheriff Dave Cox told The Columbian the 19-year-old Vancouver woman was wearing only a fanny pack with a compass and a knife about 5 p.m. Sunday when she left the Canyon Creek Campground in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

She was supposed to return that night. A friend reported her missing around midnight.

NTSB clears I-5 Skagit River bridge accident scene

The Transportation Department says parts of a temporary Interstate 5 bridge could extend over the Skagit River in a day or two and the entire 160-foot gap should be filled by mid-June.

Spokesman Travis Phelps says it will take a little more time reopen freeway lanes that have been detoured since the May 23 bridge collapse, but it should happen before the last week of the month.

That still depends on bridge piers passing inspection and workers overcoming some engineering challenges.

More than 2,400 same-sex marriages in Washington since December

More than 2,400 gay and lesbian couples have gotten married in Washington state since the state's voter-approved same-sex marriage law took effect last December.

The state Department of Health on Thursday released the first statewide numbers since marriage licenses were issued in early December.

Individual counties had released same-sex marriage numbers previously, but the Department of Health's numbers are the first statewide look at how many people took advantage of the new law from December until the end of March.

North Cascades Nat'l Park named one of 10 'hidden gems' in U.S.

Washington's North Cascades National Park has made Country magazine's "hidden gems" list of America's ten most-beautiful, least-crowded national parks.

The park is home to some of the most breathtaking scenery in Washington yet, due to its remote location, heavy annual precipitation and limited amenities, relatively few people visit it. Aside from some gravel roads, the main access is via State Route 20, the North Cascades Highway.

May 30, 2012 was a beautiful, sunny day. It was also the day when residents and students in North Seattle were told to stay indoors as police searched for the gunman who had opened fire inside a busy café.

When it was all over, five people had been shot dead and the gunman had taken his own life.

With boating season comes risk of cold water shock

Boating season opens this weekend and the weather forecast predicts mostly clear skies and temperatures in the upper 70s.

The warming temperatures have authorities concerned about water safety and the potential for deadly drowning incidents. Last year, 32 people died from drowning, and more than a third of them in the spring.

Wade Alonzo with the State Parks Boating Safety Program says Washington certainly sees cold water, even when the weather is fair.
