NBA veteran Jason Collins comes out as gay

NBA veteran center Jason Collins has become the first active male professional athlete in the major four American sports leagues to come out as gay.

Collins wrote a first-person account posted Monday on Sports Illustrated's website. The 34-year-old Collins has played for six NBA teams in 12 seasons. He finished this past season with the Washington Wizards and is now a free agent. He says he wants to continue playing.

Sacramento is in a stronger position to convince the NBA to keep the Kings from moving to Seattle with a deal now in place to build an 18,500-seat arena downtown.

The Sacramento City Council voted 7-2 Tuesday to approve a deal that contributes $258 million to the $447 million project. The city plans to use money earned from leasing parking garages for events at the arena to help pay the public cost of the new arena on the current site of an aging shopping mall.

Seahawks linebacker Leroy Hill arrested on assault charges

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Leroy Hill has been arrested after police say he assaulted his girlfriend and kept her in his home against her will.

According to a release from the Issaquah Police Department on Wednesday morning, Hill was arrested on investigation of unlawful imprisonment-domestic violence and third-degree assault-domestic violence.

Issaquah police said Hill would be booked into the King County Jail.

Ken Griffey Jr. to be inducted into Mariners' Hall of Fame

Ken Griffey Jr. will be inducted into the Seattle Mariners Hall of Fame as its seventh member.

The Mariners announced the induction Tuesday. Griffey's ceremony will take place Aug. 10 before the Mariners face the Milwaukee Brewers.

Griffey spent 13 of his 22 seasons in the majors with the Mariners. He was drafted by Seattle in 1987, made his debut at the major league level two years later and went on to have one of the finest careers in baseball history. Griffey finished with 630 home runs — sixth all-time — and was a 13-time All-Star and the 1997 American League MVP.

Super Bowl Will Be A Family Affair: Harbaugh Brothers' Ravens, 49ers To Clash

Super Bowl XLVII will be a never-before matchup of teams coached by two brothers.

The Baltimore Ravens, led by John Harbaugh, will play his younger brother Jim's San Francisco 49ers on Feb. 3 in New Orleans.

Maybe it should be called the Harbowl, as they're saying on NFL.com.

The Ravens are going to the big game thanks to an upset 28-13 win over the New England Patriots Sunday evening in Foxboro, Mass.
