Crews contain Port Townsend fire as temps rise

PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. — Fire crews have contained a wildfire that burned about 30 acres near Port Townsend.

The fire had threatened several waterfront homes in the area, but DNR spokesman Bryan Flint says no homes were lost to the blaze.

Also on the Olympic Peninsula, a 150-acre wildfire has closed the Duckabush and Mount Jupiter trails in the Brothers Wilderness Area. No structures are threatened by that fire. Residents in Seattle can expect to see smoke from the fire.

The cause of both fires remains under investigation, though they are believed to be human-caused.

Flint says the weather west of the Cascades is of most concern the next few days. Temperatures are warming up and he says atmospheric conditions are ripe for challenging fires.
