Seattle Storm honored at the White House
President Barack Obama welcomed the Seattle Storm to the White House Rose Garden today. Obama said the 2010 WNBA champions set a good example for young girls with big dreams. The President is a basketball fan and his daughters, Malia and Sasha, also like to shoot hoops.
The Storm beat the Atlanta Dream in the finals last September, winning their second WNBA championship.
Following the meet and greet with the President, the Storm hosted a WNBA FIT clinic for local youth on the White House basketball court. The clinic was part of "Let's Move!" – First Lady Michelle Obama's national campaign to tackle childhood obesity.
The Seattle Storm is one of six independently owned teams in the WNBA. The team was established in 2000, and off the court it plays an active role in promoting literacy, health and fitness, support for women and girls and youth basketball in local communities.
