Pontoons taking shape, creating jobs in Aberdeen

Washington State is the floating bridge capital of the world. We have four of the most famous ones, including the longest: State Route 520, which is about to be replaced.

What holds them all up? Giant floats made of concrete, called pontoons. The first and largest of them are being manufactured in Grays Harbor, near Aberdeen.

Cobain's name doesn't get the bridge, but small landing

ABERDEEN, Wash. — The City Council in Aberdeen, Wash., voted 10-1 against a resolution to rename a bridge after the late Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain. The council did vote to name a small body of land on the Wishkah River the Cobain Landing.

'Kurt Cobain Bridge' in Aberdeen?

ABERDEEN, Wash. — Residents of Kurt Cobain’s Washington state hometown will have a chance to weigh in on a proposal to rename a bridge after the late Nirvana front man. Public comment on renaming the Aberdeen bridge is expected at the July 27 city council meeting.

Kurt Cobain sculpture commemorates death of a native son in Aberdeen

Seventeen years after his death, legendary Pacific Northwest grunge guitarist Kurt Cobain is finally being fully embraced by his former home town. 

A concrete sculpture replicating one of his guitars is now installed in a city park in Aberdeen.  Steven Friederich, a news reporter with the Aberdeen Daily World, who has a story on the unveiling on the site today, says for years, Aberdeen rejected Cobain as a drug addict.
