Vandals shatter hundreds of windows at eight Auburn schools

Staff at Auburn High School found more than 50 windows damaged by vandalism this week.

Vandals targeted eight schools over two nights this week in Auburn. The spree left some 265 windows shattered at elementary, middle and high schools, as well as the district’s pool and several vehicles.

School staff discovered the first wave of damage Monday morning. Vandals apparently armed with pellet guns had shot out windows at schools and district facilities across town. That night, the vandals appear to have struck again, doing even more damage. Auburn High School principal Richard Zimmerman says more than 50 windows were destroyed at his school.

Cash prizes will go to schools that get more kids eating breakfast

Students at Washington Elementary in Auburn choose breakfast items from a cart before heading to their classrooms to eat. It's a model touted as a successful way to get more kids to utilize morning meals at schools.

More than 300,000 kids who qualify for free or reduced breakfast in Washington are not eating it.

Participation in the state’s early morning meal program is so low, educators and children’s advocates have launched a new effort to get schools focused on the issue.

Remains found in Auburn are likely Green River victim

Remains found in an Auburn ravine earlier this week are those of a likely Green River serial killer victim.

The King County Sheriff's Office says dental records positively identified the victim as Rebecca "Becky" Marrero. The 20-year-old was last seen on Dec. 3, 1982, leaving a motel room on Pacific Highway South.

Update: As Haiti Cholera Outbreak Spreads, Local Relief Expanded

A UN relief effort is mobilizing against the cholera outbreak that has killed dozens of Haitians in the past few days. The outbreak is spreading. This scene is a camp outside Port au Prince.
