No Playoffs, But Mariners End Season On High Note

The Mariners may not have made the playoffs, but they made a lot of fans proud by sweeping the best team in baseball over the weekend. They did it with a stellar showing from Felix Hernandez in the final game of the season. It was a performance that could earn The King another pitching crown.

Lovefest for Felix; M's pitcher now highest paid hurler in baseball

Trade Ichiro or Felix? Yes – Time for drastic action

Preview: Ichiro or Felix could go? Say it isn't so!

Felix Hernandez is under contract with the Mariners until 2014. KPLU sports commentator Art Thiel thinks the Mariners would get some good players if they traded the Cy Young Award winner. The trade deadline is Sunday, July 31.

With Major League Baseball's trade deadline looming at the end of the month, and given the Mariners recent plummet from contention, KPLU sports commentator says the M's need to make some big moves.

That means getting rid of some veterans like Ichiro Suzuki and Felix Hernandez ... and their big salaries.

Adding urgency to this move, the Mariners got swept today by the Blue Jays in Toronto, losing 7-to-5. They're losing streak now stands at 12.

Mariner presence won't be felt All-Star Game

Two Mariner pitchers have been elected to the American League All-Star team. However, KPLU sports commentator Art Thiel says, neither is expected to play in the game on Tuesday in Phoenix.

Adding insult to injury: One Mariner who's an All-Star veteran was left off the roster this year Ichiro Suzuki.

Felix Hernandez won the 2010 American League Cy Young Award, despite having the fewest wins There are rumors the Yankees may want to trade for him. Art Thiel says if the Yankees make a serious offer, the Mariners should listen.

Mariners' Felix Hernandez wins first Cy Young award

After falling just short of the honor last year, Mariners pitching ace Felix Hernandez has won his first American League Cy Young Award.  The announcement was made this morning.
