Smart grid pilot project debuting at University of Washington

A smart grid meter developed by grad students at the University of Washington. It can be remotely controlled by an app, via cell phone or computer.

Most people who pay their own energy bills know that power is expensive. But where it’s coming from and how much it costs is often more mysterious.

That could change if technology that’s part of a demonstration project at the University of Washington catches on. It’s co funded by the US Department of Energy. The U-dub is the largest of 16 demo sites creating a new Pacific Northwest Smart Grid.

Seattle high school students plan walkout over police conduct

Some Seattle high school students plan to walk out of class tomorrow, Wednesday, as part of a protest against police brutality and misconduct.  They plan to rally at Victor Steinbrueck Park near Pike Place Market at 1 p.m.

Bainbridge middle school skips day off for Martin Luther King

UW Tacoma students build Haiti earthquake reminder on campus

UW Tacoma students practice setting up a simulation of a refugee shelter in Haiti. The students will put the replica dwellings and an aid tent in the middle of campus on the one-year anniversary of the earthquake.

As people remember the earthquake that devastated Haiti last year, some Washington residents will get an up close look at the hardships survivors still face.  Today, anyone who walks through the middle of the UW Tacoma campus can see a refugee camp like those many Haitians live in.
