Point Defiance Sumatran tiger cub needs a name

Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium

The Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium's 3-week old Sumatran tiger cub is now on public display. The 8 pound feline has been moved into the cub den at the zoo's Asian Forest Sanctuary. Visitors can watch him interact with zookeepers at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily.

You can help name the cub. Zoo staffers have proposed 6 names for the little guy, and you can vote for your favorite at www.pdza.org.

Point Defiance tiger cub is being bottle-fed

Officials at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium have decided to take a newborn Sumatran tiger cub from its mother and rear it by hand.

The cub, born August 22nd, is losing weight and not getting enough milk from its mother, Jaya.

Puyallup 'loose tiger' still a mystery, continues to tweet on the run

PUYALLUP, Wash. — Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer says there have been no new reports Friday morning of a tiger on the loose near Puyallup. However, the reputed tiger is still posting away on its Twitter feed and others have been having fun online with the "loose tiger."

Tacoma zoo's tiger looking for a little love; Seattle octopuses find it

The Point Defiance Zoo is welcoming a visitor tomorrow for a special post-Valentine's Day tryst with Jaya – a Sumatran tiger named Malosi.

“We’re very excited about Malosi’s arrival and the pair’s potential to produce cubs,” said general curator Karen Goodrowe Beck. “The Sumatran tiger is critically endangered and we are working hard to protect and boost the population of this extraordinary species.”

Point Defiance tiger goes to Dallas

Java, a 12-year-old, an endangered Sumatran tiger, is leaving his home at Tacoma's Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium to find love at the Dallas Zoo. His keepers tried to mate him with the zoo's female tiger, Jaya, but that didn't work out and she mated with Java's brother, Bali, instead. Jaya gave birth to cubs Bima and Mali last May.
