'Seattle Freeze' strikes northern neighbor - Vancouver, B.C.

Apparently the social phenomenon known as the “freeze” – or social indifference and avoidance of strangers – extends north of Seattle.

A new survey of living conditions in our northern neighbor Vancouver, B.C., conducted by the Vancouver Foundation discovered:

“One in three people living in metropolitan Vancouver say it can be difficult to make friends here. Seventy per cent have never had a neighbour over. And 47 per cent do not trust or do not know if their neighbours trust each other.”

Bigger seats, 'marshmallow' roof replaced at Vancouver stadium

Seen around the world as the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, the iconic “marshmallow,” air supported roof is gone, in favor of a $240 million fabric supported retractable covering.

The renovations have been so extensive, including bigger seats for bigger bottoms, that the new BC Place is being marketed as virtually a brand new stadium.

Late train from Seattle to Vancouver, B.C., to stay on track

The late train from Seattle to Vancouver, British Columbia, will no longer be coming to a stop.

The nightly service was scheduled to end on October 31, when Canadian officials said they expected Amtrak to start paying for the extra border staff it requires. The Canada Border Services Agency wanted $1500 a day to compensate for keeping patrol agents around later into the evening, according to Railway Age Magazine:

Llama viciously attacks elderly woman at B.C. petting zoo

The Llama at the Langley, British Columbia, petting zoo was probably after some grain France Pilotte, 75, had in her backpack when it reared up, knocked her to the ground and stomped on her, according to The Vancouver Sun.
