Wind Storm Wreaks Havoc in Western Washington

"Quite blustery at Greenlake earlier today–you could almost lean in to the wind. Huge waves!" says Bellamy Pailthorp.

A gusty wind storm whipped into western Washington Saturday, toppling trees, knocking down power lines and leaving some 150,000 area residents without power.

Early Saturday afternoon, Puget Sound Energy reported some 105,000 customers were without power as a result of more than 1,000 outages, half of them in Northern King County. By Sunday morning, power had been restored to all but 9,500 customers as a result of 60 outages in King and Kitsap counties.

Wind causes power outages, some school closures

A surprisingly strong windstorm blew through the state, leaving hundreds of thousands without power, and closing or delaying school openings on Tuesday. This street in Seattle's First Hill neighborhood is covered with autumn's colors.

The strong windstorm that blew through western Washington yesterday has left more than 200,000 homes without power. Line crews are on the job this morning throughout the south and central Puget Sound.
